How To Recycle Solar Panels?

With the passage of time, solar panels have also ushered in the peak of retirement. This huge “decommissioning tide” not only brings environmental challenges, but also breeds huge potential for resource utilization. Some people might think: how to deal with waste solar photovoltaic panels?

Solar panels are composed of aluminum alloy frames, glass, encapsulation film EVA, solar cells, backplanes, junction boxes and other materials, each of which has a certain recycling value. With photovoltaic panel dismantling and recycling line processing, we can get aluminum frame, glass, metal such as copper, aluminum, tin, and silver, plastic, silicon powder, junction box and other products. The working principle of solar photovoltaic panel recycling is mainly to separate the valuable substances in solar panels by physical means such as disassembly, crushing and separation.

Process of Recycling Solar Panels

Multistage crushing and sorting are key steps in the recycling process.

1. Dismantling

First remove the junction box and the aluminum frame through a dismantling machine. The aluminum frame can be bundled and sold directly after simple treatment, and then smelted into metal.

Next, remove the glass through the glass separator, which can remove about 85-90% of the glass powder and glass glue. This glass powder can be sold directly, while the remaining 10-15% goes into the subsequent crushing and separation stage with the panels, etc.

2. Crushing and Separation

The photovoltaic panel is broken into a mixture of smaller particles after shredding, crushing, and grinding by shredder and crusher.

Then, the equipment with different sorting principles is used for sorting to obtain products such as plastic powder, metal powder and silicon powder. Magnetic separation, electrostatic separator and air separator are used to separate metal and silicon powder. The qualified material enters the air and electrostatic separator where copper, silicon and plastic are screened out. The silicon powder can be used to manufacture new photovoltaic panels again.
