How To Transform Waste Plastic Into Recycled Plastic?

Recycled plastics refer to plastic raw materials obtained by processing waste plastics through physical or chemical methods such as pretreatment, melt granulation, and modification. It is the reuse of waste plastics. Recycled plastics have good sales, good benefits, and a wide source of raw materials, so they are worth promoting. So how to transform waste plastic into recycled plastic? What kind of process does waste plastics go through to recycled plastics? Let’s learn about the transformation process of six common plastics!

waste plastic recycling

PP (polypropylene)

PP comes from daily necessities, such as plastic boxes, plastic buckets, plastic chairs, woven bags, strapping tapes, etc.

The process of recycling PP:

First, separate the colors of the various plastics, which is more convenient and can also be more expensive. Then crush and rinse with water, then use a spin dryer to dry, then air-dry and bag, use a mixer to mix and add some color and additives. Then use a plastic granulator to granulate, the granulation temperature should not be too high, it is easy to become brittle. Finally, water-cooled granulation, the standard is 3×4mm.

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)

PET is widely used in food, beverage and cosmetics.

The process of recycling PET:

First, sort the various PET bottles and tear off the labels. Then crush and rinse with water to remove dirt. Then put the fragments into the steam treatment device, add caustic soda to remove grease and other stubborn impurities. Then wash with clean water, spin dry, bag and dry. Finally, spin and shape, stretch with hot water steam, and shape again, and it’s done.

LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene)

LDPE generally refers to plastic packaging film, such as woven bag lining film, food packaging film, daily necessities packaging film, and greenhouse film.

The process of recycling LDPE:

The first step is to crush. Crushing with water will have a better effect. In this way, the clean film can be re-blown without adding new materials.

The second step is drying. Use a spin dryer to dry out the remaining water. If conditions permit, you can dry it in the sun, which not only saves electricity but also improves quality.

Then comes granulation. The granules produced by the special extruder are basically used for film blowing and injection molding again. The material coming out of the 60 to 80 mesh filter can be blown again, and the material coming out of the 40 to 60 mesh filter can meet the requirements of injection molding.

Finally, cut into granules with cold water.

PVC (polyvinyl chloride)

Most of the PVC hard materials come from building materials, plastic steel windows and doors, electroplated hard panels, sewer pipes, and decorative materials.

The process of recycling PVC:

First, separate by color. These materials are roughly divided into three types: white, gray, and black. Then send them to the crusher for crushing, still with water, to remove dirt, wash with clean water and dry them in the sun to prevent secondary pollution. Then put them in the mixer for mixing. If it is white material, add some colorant and add additives as needed. Finally, use a PVC extruder machine to make particles, cool and bag them, and label them for shipment.

ABS (terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene)

Most ABS plastics come from electrical products, daily necessities and some small mechanical parts, such as computer cases, TV cases, instrument cases, car panels, and decorative materials.

The process of recycling ABS:

First, separate the materials, especially the electroplating and painting colors. Then chemical treatment, deplating and depainting, this process must be cautious to avoid causing harm. Then wash, dry, color or add auxiliary materials to improve quality. Finally, use a special extruder to granulate, and be sure to put a filter screen on it. The filter screen can be placed according to requirements.

PC (polycarbonate)

PC mostly comes from textile accessories, car headlights, candy making molds, discs, telecommunications equipment, photographic equipment, etc.

The process of recycling PC:

First, select PC, including transparent and opaque, blue, red, green, black, modified, and coated ones.

Then clean the PC of various colors, and the deplating process of disc lamp holders, etc., which is operated in the same principle as ABS. Some PCs are relatively yellow, and porcelain white recycled plastic can be produced; transparent ones are still produced transparent recycled plastic; other colors can add colorants and material additives. Finally, a special extruder machine is used for granulation, but PC itself is easy to age, so it cannot be recycled many times. Be careful in granulation, and then cut the granules and package them.
